Lenovo battery recall could affect Australian customers

Lenovo recalls ThinkPad batteries from October 2010 to April 2011

Lenovo has issued a recall in Australia and worldwide for lithium-ion batteries that were sold in laptops, or sold as options, between October 2010 and April 2011. The recall has been issued because of a possibility that the battery may overheat, which can then pose a risk of fire or burns.

A statement provided by Lenovo Australia said that a number of incidents were reported worldwide "which resulted in damage to the computer, battery pack and nearby property".

Lenovo recommends that users who have bought Lenovo ThinkPad laptops or stand-alone lithium-ion batteries between the affected dates to remove the battery and only run on wall adapter power.

The recall is effective on a worldwide scale and could possibly affect some specific ThinkPad products between the issued dates, regardless of where they were purchased. The affected models are T510, W510, X100E, X201, X201s, Edge 11, Edge 13, and Mini 10.

Lenovo has set up a Web page where users can check if their laptop battery is affected. It requires the downloading of a tool, which must be run on the ThinkPad laptop concerned so that the system can be checked to see if the battery might be affected by the recall. A replacement program has been put in place for affected users.

Lenovo Australia's full media statement is as follows:

"Lenovo is voluntarily recalling certain lithium-ion batteries worldwide. These batteries were manufactured for use with ThinkPad notebook computers that shipped between October, 2010 and April, 2011. In the interest of public safety, Lenovo will offer customers free-of-charge replacement batteries for all recalled batteries. Lenovo advises customers to determine if they are using one of the recalled batteries by visiting http://www.lenovo.com/batteryprogram2014".

More information can be found on the batteryprogram2014 Web page.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
