In the audio tuning wizard, the first thing you will need to do is select your Primary Audio Capture device, which should be your sound card. Select it and click Next to move to the Microphone setup. Make sure it's plugged in, as you will be asked to speak into it to check the volume levels. If you see the indicator bar move when you speak into it, but you don't hear anything, go into your volume properties and make sure that it isn't muted. Double-click on the speaker icon in your system tray to bring this up. If the Microphone slider is not shown here then add it by going to Options-Properties and checking the box next to Microphone from the scroll-down list .
Tip: if your microphone is sounding a little too quiet, you can give it a boost of around 20db by checking the Mic Gain box. This box appears when you click the Advanced button located below the Microphone slider in the Volume Control.
The screen that follows the microphone setup is the speaker test. Once again, if you can't hear any sound after you've moved the slider to its maximum position, go into the Volume Control and make sure the Wave or Master volume controls aren't muted.
