Ulead's WebRazor Pro 2.0 combines four complementary Web graphics applications: GIF Animator 4.0, SmartSaver Pro 2.0, Cool 3D 2.5 and Photo Explorer 5.0. GIF Animator 4.0 is the latest incarnation of Ulead's best-known application and has become something of a standard in the Web publishing industry for producing animated graphics. Ulead has not compromised the simple usefulness of the original GIF Animator, but has added improvements to Version 4.0 including switchable views, easy access tool and colour palettes, a number of preset animations and effects as well as various performance and optimisation improvements.
A few extra kilobytes in a graphic file can slow down the load speed of a Web page and send an impatient Web surfer elsewhere. SmartSaver Pro 2.0 will manage the task of converting any graphics file to a format that is optimised for Web use. It can do this either as a stand-alone application or as a plug-in "Save" dialogue for applications like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft FrontPage. The interface allows you to mess around with palettes and formats until you are satisfied that the best balance of file size and quality has been achieved. SmartSaver Pro also includes an optimiser that makes light work of converting files.
SmartSaver Pro can save presets and create JavaScript rollovers and image maps. Photo Explorer 5.0 provides you with a Windows Explorer-like interface for managing and previewing your image collection. Photo Explorer includes features like the ability to add keywords to an image file, perform simple image manipulation tasks (like rotating an image) directly, thumbnail preview of MPEG video files and handling multi-frame files.
The last application in the WebRazor package is Ulead Cool 3D 2.5. The Net world is quickly getting over the 3D phenomenon of rendered shiny moving objects, so personally I would advise using this tool sparingly. That said, Cool 3D does the job very well. You can create, rotate, manipulate and render a large collection of text and other objects to your heart's content, using a handy palette of presets. SmartSaver may be able to save you from the massive files you produce. All in all, WebRazor Pro 2.0 represents good value and would be a welcome addition to any Web graphics arsenal.
