Can’t quite afford the latest tablet PCs or a Wacom-style graphics tablet? The Acecat 302 pen and graphics tablet combo is a cost-effective solution. The device is ideal for users with little or no experience in tablets or computers, as it comes with a bundled quick setup guide and has an easy installation process. As both Windows and Mac platforms are supported, there are instructions for each individual operating system.

I tested the Acecat 302 on a Windows XP-based machine. The tablet was recognised immediately upon connection via USB 1.1 and the provided CD-ROM was used to load extra drivers and parameters. The pen and tablet are easily customisable using selected options. For example, the pen’s 1024 levels of adjustable pressure sensitivity can be used to draw lines with different opacity, colour depth and width. The tablet area can be calibrated to provide accurate images to display.

Many different types of users could potentially benefit from this device, whether it is for professional or personal use. That said, some CAD users who would like to use this device are likely to find the tablet a little small.
