MediaStudio Pro 7

The emphasis of this release of Ulead’s high-end video editing package is improvements to existing technology rather than packing in a host of new tools. This has made the program easier to use than previous releases, but it won’t provide a great incentive for upgraders unless your current version is earlier than 6.
MediaStudio Pro 7 certainly includes ‘new stuff’, such as support for 16:9 widescreen format, improved MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and Windows Media support, DV scene detection, and more filters and effects. You also get enhanced audio tools and support for Dolby AC3 (but not Dolby 5.1).
Even though this is aimed at the semi-professional user, you can create slideshows, VCDs and other material that is clearly aimed at the home market.
On top of the editing suite you also get a video paint module, an audio editor, capture tool and the titling program CG Infinity. When properly used, these tools can help smooth out the rough edges and produce a polished video (See here for a screenshot).
Finally, the pre-gold release Ulead supplied for this review also included a copy of DVD MovieFactory 2: a bonus with a street value of approximately $135. Local pricing for MediaStudio Pro 7 was not available at the time of writing and the upgrade price varies depending on your current version.
In brief: Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7
An extensive package not suited for beginners, but ideal for anyone tired of video programs with limited features.
