SAST AEP-803 DVD/MP3 player

It can read from copied CD-R discs and also play back VCDs (Video CD) and Super VCDs as well as standard music CDs. When playing back MP3s from CD-Rs, however, you're reduced to having to flick through songs or album folders blindly, in alphabetical order. This aside, the unit worked a treat and the inclusion of a fully functional remote control is a big plus. Flicking through DVD special feature menus or switching between audio CD tracks, for example, can all be done without leaving your comfy couch.

The SAST player has a built-in Dolby Digital decoder for superb sound, as well as DTS optical-digital output, karaoke functions, parental control, multi-angle and NTSC/PAL support. You'll find great connectivity at the back, connections like S-Video out, analog video out, DTS/PCM/Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio out, fibre-optic digital out, coaxial digital out and 5.1 analog audio out (with speaker connections for centre, surround left, surround right, left, right, subwoofer).

The unit is light, but feels well made and looks fantastic. Better yet, at $499, it comes in a little bit cheaper than you might expect for a device with such capabilities.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
