S3's Rio division invests in ETC music player

The music player, which ETC Music describes as similar to an ATM (automated teller machine), allows traditional record stores to offer digital music for download to in-store customers, the companies said in a statement. S3 and ETC Music did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

The MusicTeller, which ETC Music will begin testing November 1, allows users to plug in a portable player, find music to buy or retrieve from archived music files, click on a download button and load the player within a matter of minutes, the companies said.

Prices for digital music downloaded though the MusicTeller will range from free promotional tracks to "more expensive" live music or previously unreleased material that will be released on a limited basis, ETC Music and S3 said.
