The organisation is facing a damages claim and the possibility of a class action on behalf of visually impaired people around Australia, the Public Interest Advocacy Centre in Sydney has confirmed.
Two weeks before the start of the Sydney Olympics, SOCOG was ordered to update its website to accommodate disabled users following an inquiry by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC).
The inquiry stemmed from a discrimination complaint from Australian blind man, Bruce Maguire.
Under the HREOC determination, SOCOG had until September 15, the start of the Olympic Games, to update its website.
