Olympic Village built on more than bricks and mortar

According to Autodesk, Mirvac design division HP Architects (HPA) and nine other Sydney architectural firms used the company's AutoCAD as the preliminary software to design the master plan for the entire suburb of Newington, including the Olympic village. The 1,100-dwelling, 10,000-occupant housing development for the Olympics is located in Newington.

The team started designing the suburb and village in July 1997, six months after HPA was awarded the contract by Lend Lease. HPA said in a statement that it chose AutoCAD due to its strong reputation and wide pool of available skilled users.

The collaboration was split into three teams, each focusing on a separate area: houses, modular apartments, and overlay. More than 100 AutoCAD users were involved in the project, HPA said.

Design challenges for the team included ensuring the suburb and village were easily convertible to accommodate the Paralympic Games as well as ensuring the housing development would have the aesthetic and structural longevity to operate as a residential dwelling after the Games.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
