Macromedia Flash 5 for Windows & Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide

This is one of the first books to hit Australian shelves that deals with Flash 5, and the punters have been keen to get their hands on it.

The price tag may have increased, but so has the content. The Visual QuickStart Guides (VQSG) have been very popular in the graphics and Web design industries. The author, Katherine Ulrich, also wrote the previous version on Flash 4. The VQSG format, for the unfamiliar, is characterised by brief points and an array of screenshots on the features of the program. The format is ideal for beginners, as it is very easy to get what you need from the book.

The book comprises 16 chapters, from launching the program through to adding sound to movies. Advanced scripting topics, however, are really beyond the scope of this book and may not be much help. As a result, the only criticism is that it may lack some detail that advanced users might like further explained.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
