Foreign companies will be able to bid on equal footing with domestic buyers for domain names, technologies, Web content and dot-com companies, according to the report. Most of the Web sites to be sold are likely to be electronic commerce service providers and content providers, the report said.
The organising committee of the auction will provide legal consultation to overseas investors. The International Trade Promotion Committee is affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Trade, China Daily said.
Registration began a week ago and has drawn approximately 10 Web sites interested in a sale and 20 registrants looking to buy. A number of foreign companies have expressed their intention to bid, the report said.
