TV guide comes to mobile phones

A television guide for mobile phones, complete with video highlights, program news and search function, has launched for customers of the 3 network.
Based on the yourtv.com.au Web site, the service lets users search and customise the two-day guide according to their preferences.
Users can search "YourTV on 3" by channel, program title or time, and synchronise their settings with the Web site.
Program alerts will soon be added, said Paul Marshall, CEO of developer HWW Limited.
The site can be accessed on other mobile networks via GPRS, but customers of the 3 network will enjoy the benefits of a service specially designed for their network, according to Marshall.
"There can be a lot of problems browsing sites on mobiles," he said.
"This service has been optimised for every handset. The video, multimedia has all been encoded for the 3 network."
Marshall said the guide was limited to two days, as the majority of users only looked that far ahead.
The service costs $1 per month.
