Intel launches new chip design for handhelds

Called the Intel XScale microarchitecture, the design is based on Intel's StrongArm core and will allow the development of microprocessors that consume extremely low levels of power.

Among other products, XScale will be used in microprocessors that operate at 600MHz but consume less than half a watt of power, according to the company.
