Cop this: Sandgropers on the case

He was speaking at the launch of Seagate Software's Crystal Analytic Applications, the rebranded "version 8" of the vendor's e-business enterprise analysis application suite.

According to McLachlan, crime collation methods employed by police prior to implementing business intelligence applications saw report delivery delay times of over one week, from initial analysis request to posting to operational police staff.

He said that by using Seagate applications, the WA Police Service has reduced the time taken to post analysis reports to under 24 hours by using a batch data delivery system. It plans to make the service execution time immediate once the operation is taken online.

The new Crystal Analytic Applications suite offers 144 prepackaged analysis functions, such as e-Telecom, which analyses a company's telephone usage patterns and exposes unnecessary costs associated with telephony. Some enterprise application drivers -- compatible with major enterprise applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft and JDEdwards -- are included in the suite.

Pricing for the suite starts at $75,000, depending on the numbers of users.
