ICANN Votes to Add New Top Level Domains

Under the resolution adopted at the meeting an unspecified number of new global top level domains could be in place in time for launch in 2001.

ICANN will begin accepting applications from parties interested in operating the domain name registry and registar for one month from 1 August. It hopes to complete discussions and negotiations concerning the new domain names by 31 December.
