Adaptec ReZOOM

Possibly better known to you through their CD creation software such as Easy CD Creator or Toast, Adaptec has a history of creating highly functional, easy-to-use software. ReZOOM is no different, aimed at everyone who needs access to a computer's resources and files at all times.

The concept is simple: maintain a second hard drive as a backup, complete with the most recent saves of files and any valuable information you select. Add to this the peace of mind that those files on your backup drive have been scanned for software bugs and viruses before being copied. Removable storage devices such as Zip, CD-R, CD-RW and tape drives are not supported as backup drives but any IDE or an internal or external SCSI hard disk supporting INT 13 BIOS access can be used as the secondary backup drive. If need be, this drive can be instantly booted onto should anything go wrong. No more lost time dealing with technical support or reinstalling WindowsReZOOM is designed for Windows 9.x and NT and sits quietly in the background, continuously backing up files according to the schedule you set, while you work. If Windows won't start, ReZOOM can boot your computer from the backup drive with one press of a button. For business, this continuation of productivity throughout what would normally be PC downtime means doors can stay open and the data integrity of files such as databases can be maintained. With the aid of wizards you can diagnose and repair the most common software corruption problems on the primary drive. Boot blocks, file allocation table problems, and missing or damaged system files are among the items checked. Screen icons provide information regarding such things as the secondary drive's available space.

At $129, ReZOOM doesn't sound the death knell for other conventional backup methods such as tape or imaging. However, it does provide an easy to use, dynamic and low-cost means of keeping your information safe.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
