TView Gold Pro

From recreating a cinema feel at home when watching DVDs to holding presentations at work without the aid of expensive projection devices or large plasma screens, this device lets you use any PAL/NTSC television as your computer's display. A key point of consideration when shopping for a PC video to TV video conversion unit or a graphics card with TV-out capabilities is its ability to handle higher resolutions. The TView Gold Pro tackles this head on, being compatible with NTSC and PAL TVs, Apple RGB and multi-scan monitors as well as all VGA monitors. Maxi-mum display resolutions are 1024x768 in 16.7 million colours (XGA) with refresh rates of up to 90Hz.

Focus Enhancement's TrueScale visual processing technology is used to provide more accurate image conversion and display, weeding out line dropping and video artefacting, two things which, in the past, have quite literally been a blur with this technology. In addition, TView Gold Pro also improves quality with the aid of independent horizontal and vertical under scan; this helps to fit images on your screen without reducing clarity, allowing you to adjust them precisely. The version of TView Gold reviewed comes bundled with Presentation F/X and Electronic Marker software that allows you to draw over your presentation in much the same way as sports commentators (think Richie Benaud and Tony Greig) doodle over players and field positions - perfect for presentations and highlighting subject points in your speech. You also get an infrared PS/2 keyboard with a pointing device and two mouse buttons built in, as well as a separate remote control which allows for 2X zoom and incorporates its own pan control. Now you can control every aspect of your PC from up to 10m away.

The conversion unit itself is a little smaller than a videocassette in both weight and size, solidly built, and includes a Kensington lock port for security purposes. Outputs include NTSC/PAL, SECAM (with SCART capability), Composite RCA, S-Video, Apple RGB and VGA. TView Gold Pro offers multisync, plug and play compatibility with both Windows and the Mac OS. The three-year warranty will put your mind at ease while you continue to discover just how much the PC and the humble video are increasingly merging.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
