Corel Custom Photo

Photo House 5 reduces image acquisition to a couple of simple steps, with icons clearly showing how to input an image from a CD, digital camera, scanner or the Web. Corel Photo House 5 supports most common file formats, including Web-compatible formats such as JPEG or GIF, with an Interactive Slider and Live Preview to help find a balance between file size and image quality.

Retouching images is a simple matter, and everything from the lighting to the colour range of your image can be adjusted. Imperfect images can be improved using the sharpening tool. The ever-popular red eye fixing tool is there, a ‘must have' for family photos. Old photos can be brought back to life, improving contrast and removing scratches and other marks with few hassles.

Custom Photo also allows you to remove objects from one image and place them in another. Drop your older brother into a volcano or place yourself next to Greg Norman; it's just a matter of pushing the pixels around.

Some of the effects available are truly professional, with edge transparency, motion blur and auto F/X edges to provide results that would please most graphic designers. CYMK conversion, not available on many home user graphic packages, reflects the serious nature below the consumer surface of Custom Photo.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
