TurboLinux champions its channel

The company recently announced it has selected Tech Pacific as its national distributor and channel manager and Centari Systems as the company's first local gold reseller.
Additionally, state-based distributors, MPA (Victoria and Tasmania), Saratoga (South Australia and Western Australia), Astims IT (NSW), and Intellitron (Queensland and the Northern Territory), have been appointed to manage resellers in those states.
Nicole Sztachanski, general manager for TurboLinux Australia and New Zealand, said the company plans to focus on the marketing and development of Linux and TurboLinux solutions rather than selling and implementing applications.
"The state-based partners will work with TurboLinux on product service and support," she said. Reseller and distributor services will include installation, Linux training and technical support for TurboLinux products and Linux in general, Sztachanski said.
Under the agreement with Tech Pacific, the distributor will introduce TurboLinux products, including TurboLinux Workstation 6.0, TurboLinux Server 6.0, TurboCluster Server 4 and enFusion 6.0 for the workstation and service markets.
Sztachanski said that part of TurnoLinux's role recently has also included training and educating the channel on Linux. "I guess there is a reasonable amount of Linux resources out there," she said.
"(Resellers) are coming online slowly. We are gradually educating them. We take resellers by the hand and introduce them to Linux."
Despite some lack of knowledge, Sztachanski said she expects the Linux movement in Australia to grow "exponentially", especially among enterprises who are attracted to the operating system because of its cost effectiveness and features.
According to Sztachanski, Australian enterprises such as AMP Asset Management, Boeing Australia and Monash University have adopted TurboLinux applications.
