Small ASP users already reaping rewards

The finding is based on one undisclosed Unisys application service provider (ASP) customer in New Zealand.

According to the Unisys figures, all software application, hardware, administration and technical support expenses for a ten PC user company using ASP can be weighed in at $214,200 over three years. A company the same size sourcing these duties in-house will spend $395,000 over the same period.

The company's global director of outsourcing operations, Bob Evans, told IDG today that although ASP customers and providers were not yet reaping significant financial rewards, examples such as this will see a noticeable surge in the corporate uptake of ASP later in 2000.

Unisys will launch a full-blown ASP suite in "the second quarter of 2000" that will be targeted at all businesses involved in customer relationship management, travel and publishing, he said.
