Photo editing: quick fixes or manual manipulation?

If you’re a wretched digital photographer — or even a good one — Jasc’s Paint Shop Pro 8 and Roxio’s PhotoSuite 5 Platinum can help you fix your pics. The difference? Paint Shop Pro 8 takes some work to learn but gives ample help, whereas PhotoSuite ...

Take great photos in bad weather

Most digital cameras are best used on dry sunny days or indoors, protected from the elements. Olympus’s new water-resistant models allow you to keep shooting even when the weather turns foul.

Kyocera Finecam S5

Kyocera says that its $1395 Finecam S5 is the world’s smallest 5-megapixel camera. The size is indeed wonderful, but the quality of the camera’s images leaves much to be desired.

Canon PowerShot G3 digital camera

Is Canon late to the 5-megapixel party by releasing its swanky $1799 PowerShot G3 with the same 4-megapixel resolution as its predecessor, the PowerShot G2?

Pinnacle Expression, VideoWave Movie Creator

Camped out at the end of one of your local computer store’s aisles — where it’s likely to snare impulse buyers — a simple all-in-one video editing/DVD application such as Pinnacle Systems’ $135 Pinnacle Expression or Roxio’s $US80 VideoWave Movie Cre...

Adobe Photoshop 7

Photoshop, Adobe's big-gorilla image editing application, traditionally has provided tonnes of tools for preparing images. In Photoshop 7, Adobe adds a painting engine that offers effects previously available only from rival Procreate (formerly Corel...

Apple's Dual-Processor Mac G4

Apple musters only 867 MHz with its best PowerPC G4, but the Mac maker is trying to compensate for the perceived power difference by offering a Power Mac with two 800-MHz processors. Unfortunately, we found that in most instances, the second processo...

Minolta Dimage 7

The Minolta Dimage 7 captures the highest resolution images yet, but our colour contrast results were mixed.

Toshiba PDR-M65

Toshiba's PDR-M65 is one of the least expensive 3-megapixel cameras we've tested. Nevertheless, it captured some of the sharpest, most detailed images we've seen.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
