    Easeus Todo Backup 29/10/2009 16:45:00

We don't understand how companies can make money giving stuff like this away. True, the free Easeus Todo Backup doesn't do every single backup task: it won't schedule, overwrite previous jobs, or do incremental backups. But for anyone willing to back up and cull backups manually, this program has a lot to recommend it.

LaCie LaCinema Rugged HD multimedia player 26/10/2009 15:45:00

LaCie's LaCinema Rugged HD is a hard drive that attaches to your PC's USB port, and it's a multimedia player that outputs the video, music, and images that you copy onto it to your TV via HDMI or composite/analog outputs. It's price (US$349) is above average for a hard drive-based portable digital media adapter, but it's also significantly better than average, with 1080p output and 500GB of capacity - enough for the 100 DVDs' worth of video, even at 1080p if compressed properly.

Pro Tools remains the Pro's choice 02/09/2009 23:38:00

Almost since its inception, Pro Tools's outstanding mixing board mimicry has made it the pro's choice for intuitive, upscale audio recording and manipulation -- the DAW's DAW, as it were. You'll find Avid Technology's Pro Tools (usually the Mac version) in most professional recording studios. However, for creative sequencing and MIDI editing Pro Tools has always been a weak sister. Many composers have used Logic, Cubase, Finale, Sibelius, Reason or some such to create music, then exported the project into Pro Tools only for audio recording and editing. With the new Pro Tools 8 (US$200 and up, depending on related hardware), users can realistically use Pro Tools as a one-stop composing/recording shop.
