    5 movies starring computers 19/08/2008 10:00:00

Computers are all over movies these days, from the ones behind the scenes that create gosh-wow special effects to the ones on screen that are the constant targets of ridiculously good-looking hackers. What's rare is finding movies where computers and programs--androids and robots don't count--are actually part of the cast. A computer hasn't won an Oscar yet, but with these five films you can at least imagine them asking, "What's my motivation?"

Five groovy sites for free music downloads 19/05/2008 15:10:00

Short of "free food" and "free beer," "free music" is one of the sweetest phrases you can hear. But getting tunes gratis doesn't have to mean ending up on the RIAA's Most Wanted list. These five sites will let you easily fatten up your music collection with tracks that creators and recording labels are giving away - all in DRM-free, MP3 format. The top 15 vaporware products of all time 06/05/2008 15:40:00

The tech industry has had more than its fair share of products that infamously failed to take off. Some fit the classic definition of vaporware, and were all hype and no substance. A few were simply too far ahead of their time. And others were merely victims of bad judgment about what users wanted. Five videos you won't see on YouTube 25/03/2008 09:36:34

Tired of the YouTubescene? I am. It's a pain when the copyright-infringing video everyone's talking about disappears before you can catch it. And the site's 10-minute limit on videos doesn't do much for those of us with longer attention spans--or who don't like features with six intermissions. Though Rihanna music videos and Trinidad and Tobago Police Band performances are fun, wouldn't you rather watch something a little more...movielike? Well, fire up the popcorn, because I have five flicks you can legally download that YouTube won't have up anytime soon.

Anyone remember the old days of USB 1.1? I do, every time I plug my thumb drive into an older computer and find myself waiting interminably for that 800 MB file to copy -- usually just before I have to catch a train.

The top 15 wackiest USB devices 12/02/2007 09:19:41

When the USB format was introduced just over 11 years ago, the creators envisioned it as a way to liberate computer users by making it easy for them to attach devices to PCs without opening the case, fiddling with arcane settings, or dealing with a multitude of specialized ports. By simplifying things for product developers and users, the format gave creative designers the means to come up with any kind of device they pleased.
