Virgin Mobile's Wi-Fi Modem works just as well as a regular USB modem, but adds the convenience of a wireless connection for up to three computers. The flaky Optus network may be an issue for some, but this compact unit is cordless, rechargeable and hugely convenient.

The MSI Wind 12 U200 is bigger and more powerful than a typical netbook, yet it's still small and easy to travel with. We love its keyboard, its battery life is good and its CPU is relatively powerful. Our main complaint is that it's a top-heavy unit, so firm knocks can make it topple backwards, especially when using it on your lap.

Despite its reduced size and resolution, the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is one of the best netbooks on the market. It's very well built, it has an expansion slot and its battery lasts a long time. Its keyboard is hard to get used to, but some of the people we showed it to loved it.

It's worth considering the ASUS RT-N15 SuperSpeed N Wireless Router if you want a Gigabit Ethernet router with an 802.11n wireless access point. It was reliable in our tests and performed well over a long distance.

Sony Ericsson's latest Walkman mobile phone is a fine combination of design and features. It's the first Walkman phone to include Wi-Fi, and at this price it represents very good value for money.
