The Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC) has brought a copyright lawsuit against 14 consumer electronics companies for allegedly violating GNU General Public License (GPL) in the use of GPL-licensed software in their products. Microsoft is set to release Tuesday a set of drivers and utilities for its Windows CE 5.0 operating system to make product development easier for device manufacturers.

Measuring 365mm x 260mm x 60mm, the high definition HD-7000 sports a stylishly slick front-panel, with a slim LED screen above a small row of buttons, which finishes with a menu navigation pad. The back panel is relatively simple, with basic S-Video and AV connections, as well as component, RGB and DVI connections. Component cables come included with the HD-7000, giving users access to 1080i resolution high definition television from the moment they plug it in. Digital audio output is also supported via either coax or optical connection.

One of a new breed of digital PVRs, the Humax PVR-8000T acts as both a digital set-top box and video recorder, storing recorded movies on its internal 80GB hard disk. It's not the most extraordinary of PVRs, nor a particularly capable digital set-top box, but it is competent at both and relatively inexpensive.

Hardware manufacturer, Humax, has copped a $150,000 fine for attempting to fix the retail price of its digital set-top boxes.
