    Brother MFC-9970CDW multifunction laser printer 22/07/2011 08:47:00

The Brother MFC-9970CDW color laser multifunction printer tackles the full laundry list of small-office and workgroup print/copy/scan/fax needs, outdoing every competitor in its price range (US$700 as of July 18, 2011) and offering cheap toner to boot. The only thing wrong with this picture is, well, the picture: Its photo quality is middling, and its color scans can be overly dark.

Oki MC561 colour laser multifunction printer 06/07/2011 08:08:00

Oki Printing Solutions' MC561 colour laser multifunction printer is well equipped for a busy workgroup, with full print/copy/scan/fax features, outstanding speed, and superior text quality. Graphics quality fell short of my expectations, however, and Oki still has a lot to learn about ease of use. Among MFPs at roughly the same price as the MC561 (US$750 as of June 29, 2011), the slightly less expensive Brother MFC-9970CDW is a bit slower but offers comparable or better features -- and better graphics quality.

    Brother HL-4570CDW laser printer 21/12/2010 10:51:00

In most respects the Brother HL-4570CDW color laser printer is a good value. Its US$500 price tag (as of December 16, 2010) is budget-friendly for small and medium-size workgroups, as are its reasonable toner costs. Its speed and features are competitive with those of the pricier Dell 3130cn. Where the HL-4570CDW falls a little short is in photo quality; it's best suited for mainstream business graphics as a result. The Oki C330dn costs less but is slower, has even dicier color quality, and charges more for its toner.

Kyocera Mita FS-C5300DN color laser printer 31/08/2009 14:30:00

Kyocera Mita's FS-C5300DN color laser printer is very fast, and its consumables have an extraordinarily low cost. It's well worth considering for a high-volume office's color needs--if the color is for pie charts and accents, rather than for good-quality photos.

Fuji Xerox Phaser 4510/N monochrome laser printer 29/06/2009 14:15:00

The great big billy goat gruff of the three that also include the (relatively) little Xerox Phaser 3250/DN and the medium-size Xerox Phaser 3600/N, the Xerox Phaser 4510/N monochrome laser printer seems to have a mission in life: to print plain-text documents as quickly as possible. This it does--and very well, too--but we expected for more from a printer this expensive ($1929.95 as of June 25, 2009).

    OKI B6500N 29/02/2008 12:36:07

For speed, reliability and low cost of ownership, it's hard to beat a monochrome laser printer. OKI's most recent, the B6500N, is for all types of office environments, from an accountants' small office to a mid-size workgroup. And for $1754, while it might seem expensive for a one-colour printer, you do get a blindingly fast unit that's very easy to maintain, and which has a high paper handling capacity.
