LaCie LaCinema Rugged HD multimedia player 26/10/2009 15:45:00

LaCie's LaCinema Rugged HD is a hard drive that attaches to your PC's USB port, and it's a multimedia player that outputs the video, music, and images that you copy onto it to your TV via HDMI or composite/analog outputs. It's price (US$349) is above average for a hard drive-based portable digital media adapter, but it's also significantly better than average, with 1080p output and 500GB of capacity - enough for the 100 DVDs' worth of video, even at 1080p if compressed properly.

The top 7 encrypted hard drives 21/04/2009 07:12:00

By now, we're all getting desensitised to horror stories about missing hard drives full of private information. When you hear that another 20,000 customers of a less-than-careful company are at risk of identity theft, you probably roll your eyes. And it's hard not to enjoy the irony when government officials entrusted with the security of the nation get caught out by something as simple as a forgotten laptop.

    Maxtor BlackArmor 05/01/2009 12:11:00

There is often a gap between the rate at which technology develops and the rate at which people and businesses adjust to it. The prevalence of identity theft and the large number of major data breaches suffered by businesses are examples of how we're still grappling with an increasingly networked and data-dependent economy.
