    Bulletstorm 25/02/2011 10:36:00

Bulletstorm is a strange bird in the world of shooters. It chooses to violently wag its middle finger at the superserious shooter that's inundated the first-person-shooter market, offering a bit of levity among its doom-and-gloom-drenched brethren. To that end, Bulletstorm offers a hilariously over-the-top experience, complete with a potty-mouthed cast, incredibly inventive ways to dispatch foes, and a campaign that impresses with some nicely varied gameplay and thoroughly enjoyable boss battles.

    Kung-Fu Live 16/12/2010 12:00:00

Some games are unintentionally goofy, and some, like Kung-Fu Live, intentionally cultivate the goof. There's more in the way of geek-ified, off-the-wall humour in this game than you'd see in five years of going to PAX. From its 1970's chop-socky comic-book theme to its hilarious way of putting you, boxer shorts and all, directly into the game world, Kung-Fu Live is not for the serious of temperament.

    Epic Mickey 14/12/2010 12:50:00

On the drawing board, Epic Mickey is a surefire smash: A brilliant turn for perhaps the world's most recognisable original cartoon character, exploring grim material and feelings of jealousy, sadness, and regret in a way we've rarely seen from the typically fluffy Disney universe. But video games (perhaps more than any other form of art or entertainment) cannot be solely appreciated on a conceptual level, as the interactive element ultimately guides much of the experience. And in that regard, Epic Mickey can only be seen as a disappointment.

    DJ Hero 2 23/11/2010 16:15:00

Activision and FreeStyleGames' first DJ Hero title had a lot of potential, especially taking into account its terrific library of mashups, but the interface and proprietary turntable controller still had some kinks that needed to be ironed out. The sequel attempts to pick up where the first left off, and it's evident that the series has taken substantial steps towards becoming a legitimate Guitar Hero-sized contender.

    Just Dance 2 05/11/2010 11:50:00

I don't think anyone saw this coming. The original Just Dance was a terrible game, bordering on shovelware. It barely worked, it looked like a budget title, and the dance routines and music were largely uninspired.

    StarCraft 2 03/09/2010 12:00:00

StarCraft 2 is Blizzard's first real-time strategy game since the Frozen Throne expansion of Warcraft III in 2003. It has taken 12 years since the release of the original StarCraft and expansion for the company to complete the long awaited sequel -- and the final product is a game that's quite close to the original in gameplay.

    The iPad review: a gamer's perspective 05/04/2010 23:39:00

The word "revolutionary" gets bandied about quite a bit, particularly when Apple is involved. And to hear some people talk, the iPad tablet threatens the viability of all existing netbooks and e-readers while promising to usher in a new era of tablet computing.

    Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight 01/04/2010 10:00:00

The RTS genre has undergone a lot of change in the past few years. When the genre was first established, most games adhered strictly to the three basic fundamentals of harvesting resources, building bases and fielding massive armies of throwaway units. But as the genre has matured, there's been a movement towards "streamlining" the overall experience while established genre tropes were either pared down to a bare minimum or eliminated altogether. Relic's Dawn of War 2 famously did away with both base building and the resource gathering, relying instead on off-screen reinforcements via resource-ticking control points.
