    HP Mini 1103 netbook: Solid, old-school 01/03/2011 09:07:00

The business-oriented HP Mini 1103 netbook is good-looking and solidly designed, and it has great battery life. Two years ago it would've earned high praise. Today it reminds us how inadequate Atom-based netbooks are for all but the most basic computing tasks. If the basics are all you need to cover, however, at $299 (as of February 28, 2011) this machine is a good deal with nice ergonomics.

Epson Artisan 835 excels at photos and more 12/10/2010 07:22:00

The Epson Artisan 835 is the company's flagship, photo-oriented color inkjet multifunction (print/copy/scan/fax). Although it isn't specifically designed for office use (as is Epson's WorkForce line), the Artisan 835 has nearly every feature a home-office user could want and then some, making its $300 price (as of October 3, 2010) justifiable, if still dear.

    ArcSoft MediaConverter 4 09/06/2010 13:50:00

Is ArcSoft MediaConverter 4 a good purchase? Alas, we're talking close but no cigar. The interface is a tad odd, it lags behind competitors such as Xilisoft in codec support, and it's rather pricey.

    MSI GX640-098US Gaming Laptop 22/05/2010 07:42:00

If you're looking for a reasonably portable gaming laptop, the MSI GX640-098US is a 15.4-inch multimedia powerhouse that might just be for you. At a bit under three kilograms, it is easier to carry than similarly powerful laptops. Even so, it's still not the ideal, take-anywhere travel companion -- unless, of course, you just can't live without Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Coming in at US$130, the Memorex MyVideo HD pocket camcorder records 720p high-definition footage, snaps 5-megapixel still photos, and has a retractable USB connector, like most of its pocket-camcorder competition.
