HP Pavilion dm4-3000 Beats Audio notebook 14/02/2012 10:51:00

For $999, the HP Pavilion dm4-3000 Beats Edition notebook is a good buy. It has a nice style, it's comfortable to use and it houses a solid configuration that's helmed by an Intel Core i5-2430M CPU. At 14in and 2kg, it's not an overly big or heavy notebook and it sits in a nice middle ground between slightly more expensive Ultrabooks and cheaper, yet bulkier 15in notebooks.

    HP Envy 15 notebook 10/02/2012 13:13:00

HP's Envy 15 is a 2.7kg, 15.6in notebook with a good set of specifications and a very nice design. It looks good and has a couple of features that can't be found on other notebooks, such as a large, rotational volume control and a six-speaker system. It also uses a Beats Audio interface, which makes adjusting the sound output very easy. It's not a perfect notebook though, and there are still some areas that we think need refining, but overall, it's still a unit worth considering.

The Fujitsu LifeBook TH701 is a tablet convertible laptop with lots of features and a more-than-decent configuration considering its size. It can be used as a regular notebook for long typing sessions and regular work, or as a tablet for when you need to use a touch interface, draw or take down notes.

    HP Folio 13-1008TU Ultrabook 14/12/2011 15:02:00

HP's Folio 13-1008TU is an excellent Ulrabook. It's slim, well built, light and it has a good range of connectivity built in to it. Most importantly, it's a very comfortable laptop to use: it comes with a smooth and responsive Synaptics touchpad and its keyboard has soft, backlit keys that are a joy to hit.

    Toshiba Satellite Z830 (PT22LA-001001) Ultrabook 20/11/2011 13:27:00

The way we hoped Ultrabooks would materialise when we first heard about them is about as close as Toshiba has gotten with its design of the 13.3in Satellite Z830. It's a magnificent piece of work that fits necessary ports and slots into an almost impossibly thin and light chassis, a chassis that also houses speedy enough components to make everyday computing tasks a breeze. While most vendors talk of no-compromise thin-and-light computing when it comes to Ultrabooks, only Toshiba has walked the walk thus far.

Medion's Akoya P7812 (MD 98770) is perhaps the most powerful notebook that the company has put out to date. It's a bulky 17.3in desktop replacement that's suitable for home users who want something that can be used for a little bit of everything (even gaming), yet it won't cost more than $900. It has a basic design and is a functional computer that has all the features required for daily office work and entertainment.

    ASUS Zenbook UX31 (CUX31E-RY010V) Ultrabook 16/11/2011 00:01:00

The ASUS Zenbook UX31 (CUX31E-RY010V) is a 13.3in Ultrabook that holds tremendous appeal, not only because of its looks, but also because of its specifications. It features an Intel Core i7 CPU and a 256GB solid state drive, and it comes with USB 3.0, Ethernet and HDMI (albeit in micro form). However, it's a laptop that has a few issues when it comes to user-friendliness and we're not sure that it's a great unit for those of you who will spend a lot of time typing on it.

The Ultrabook, the MacBook Air equivalent for Windows users, has arrived. Acer's 13in Aspire S3 is the first of these new laptops to hit the Australian market. Upon seeing it, its smooth styling and thin design is likely to activate that particular zone in your brain that's responsible for telling you to go out and buy things.
