How to beat the line at the Apple Store 24/11/2011 08:00:00

A visit to your local Apple store during the holiday season can be maddening. The walk-in line to purchase an iPhone 4S alone can take upwards of an hour, depending on how many people are in front of you. While we generally like the Apple store’s “no register” system, it can be headache inducing during busy periods.

Seagate GoFlex Satellite portable hard drive 21/05/2011 09:16:00

The Seagate GoFlex Satellite hard drive takes the shackles off your tablet, freeing it to connect to a greater amount of storage capacity -- without having to go through any pesky wires. But although the hardware implementation is adequate, the software app struggles. A lot. At launch, Seagate is offering a messy, limited app for iPad and iPhone; an Android app equivalent is still in the works, so for now Android users must access the hard drive's contents using a comparatively crude Web-browser interface (admittedly, one not unlike the browser interface for standard network-attached drives).

The Kingston HyperX Max 3.0 portable external drive may not have a huge capacity, but its main purpose is to supply speedy and reliable storage. It's a solid-state drive (SSD) that uses multi-level cell flash memory technology, so it's not prone to damage in the same way a conventional spinning hard drive is, plus it runs cool and doesn't make any noise. Hints of Light Peak: In progress, but not ready yet 06/01/2011 08:05:00

At the Storage Visions conference today, I've been hearing updates on storage connection interfaces, like the state of USB 3.0 (it's going to be everywhere), the WiGig Alliance for faster Wi-Fi transfers, and Intel's jackalope-like Light Peak interface.

    Iomega Skin Radical 10/12/2010 16:30:00

But all that is set to change with the release of the Iomega Skin Radical; a 500GB USB 2.0 hard drive that puts style and swankiness at the forefront
