If you're looking for a mid-size LCD television, Sony's Bravia KDL32W5500 is king of the bunch. It comes with a higher price tag than we would have liked, but if you want the pedigree you'll have to pay for it.

The 50in Panasonic TH-P50G10A is a great choice if you're after a plasma television. It costs less than Pioneer’s plasmas but offers very similar picture quality and a modern design, as well as a few extras that may sway digital media enthusiasts.

As a technological tour de force, we’re extremely impressed with the Sony Bravia KDL40ZX1. It’s ultra-thin, delivers good picture quality and the wireless video streaming is an innovation we’re hoping will become commonplace.

Samsung's Series 8 (PS50B850) plasma television is a brilliant product. Almost-peerless picture quality, a great design and a range of integrated features make it yet another new Samsung TV we heartily recommend. You do pay for the privilege, but that's really the only downside.

Apart from a few small niggles, the Samsung Series 7 (UA46B7100) LED television is a very impressive unit. Pictures are consistently impressive no matter what content is used, while the stylish design and great feature set make this television one of the best complete packages we’ve seen.

We’re sad to say that this is the last Pioneer plasma television for the foreseeable future — and likely the last ever. Pioneer leaves the market on a high note though: the Kuro PDP-LX609A is the best plasma television screen we’ve seen.

Sony's BRAVIA KDL55XBR45 Full HD LCD television is fantastic for watching content of any kind. When compared to its direct rival, the Samsung Series 9, it has a few inadequacies, but overall it is a strong performer and well worth its price tag.

Another great TV from Samsung, the Series 8 offers the same excellent image quality and features found in its other units. However, its awkward positioning in the company's range may turn off some users who are willing to spend a little more to get the Series 9.
