Age of Empires 2 with XP

I used to have Pentium 100 running windows 98 that ran Age of Empires 2 perfectly (except that it was a little slow of course!). But now AOE2 doesn't run with my new Pentium 4 system running Windows XP. When I go into the program, an error message saying, "Age of Empires II has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" comes up. The compatibility wizard is completely useless in fixing my program. Where can I get some new drivers or something that can make AOE2 work under XP?

DOes not the Windows XP CD have a fix on it for running Age of Empires, and for other microsoft games? I am sure I saw something like that during the install process.

Try updating the Compatibility Wizard from the Windows Update site as they have just recently released a patch or an update to it which might make it function under XP.
Give it a try!

Re: Age of Empires 2 with XP

I am not sure, but it sound like you put the old disk in the new machine. This AOEII message could indicate that the program has not been installed properly. There are multiple registry entries needed.
Re-install the program into the same directory should fix it. Also, make sure to download the Windows Program Compatibility UPdate (Start => Windows Update).

Hope this helps.
