The SIMS - not working!

I have purchased a copy of The Sims (yes...the old one) and was unable to play it on my P4-3.4GHz, 1.0MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce5300. The installation went fine but the game froze after 1 - 2 minutes of play. So I installed it instead on a P3 - 1.6GHz machine and all was well. However, after about a week or so the program fails to start at all, double-clicking the icon produced an immediate error (i.e. ...had to close....do you want to send to Microsoft etc). Googling errors suggested too many background processes etc - tried all these remedies to no avail. Doing a system restore to a known "good" time and the program works fine - for about another week or so, then it all falls over again. HELP!

sims 1 not working

I can't believe there are no replies to this. Doesn't anyone still play sims 1?
I can't get it to work either. I have all expansion packs.

Maybe it's time to upgrade to Sims 3?
