Trouble Setting up a Wirless Network
I have been trying to setup my network on my desktop to my laptop, the are both running Windows Vista Home Basic. Belkin have assured me that I don't need to have an ADSL or Cable and as such I can use it purely as a normal network. I have a Belkin 802.11g Wireless Router which includes a connection for a broadband/ADSL access.
My problem lies when I go to setup the wireless network, I cant seem to get it to function correctly in terms of file sharing. So I try to access the Belkin website that contains the 'setup assistant' only to be told that the page can not be displayed. I have also tried to access this site from my laptop with the same effect. Yet when I connect my computers via a LAN cable everything works fine. I should point out that Windows does detect, to the best of my knowledge, the wireless router.
I have emailed and emailed, etc. belkin on this and their responses seem to avoid the subject or give me assistance in all areas except the one I asked.
I have known PC World to explain their solutions in everyday terms, so I ask am I doing something wrong or Is there something with the site I am trying to access. The second part is can I setup my network to function normally without the website's assistance

Re: Trouble Setting up a Wirless Network
First mistake was buying Belkin. Dunno why they bother, it never works as it should. For home use D-Link is good. Running Vista, you need to set the network type to private or you won't see much at all. If set to public, it will assume you are using a public internet hotspot, and will turn off just about everything, including any sort of file sharing. Hopefully, this is the issue, if not, post back.

Re: Trouble Setting up a Wirless Network
I have been playing with the router and I have found a solution, while I can't remember the exact path I took to achieve this I now have full access to all systems and the Internet on all systems.
It is as follows:
1. You need three wireless adapters, unless the computers have them already.
2. Setup the router as an access point, this will bypass most of the trouble.
3. with your Wireless router set as a access point, access your internet connection and set sharing as Wireless network. Once the internet connection sharing is set to Wireless Network, disconnect the router to make it as a standalone access point.
3 simply setup all the others to access the wireless network and you should be able to access the other computer as well as the internet.
If you have norton 360 disable the firewall in Norton 360 and enable Windows firewall, for some reason I cant get Norton to allow the network to function properly.
In closing, as I said, I can't remember the step by step procedure for this but I have outlined the basics. Also the internet connection refers to a dialup. It may be slow but I rather have a show internet connection than no connection at all, this is because there are three computers using it at once so be patient.
