Game Mods, pc requirements, recommended games

Hi everyone,
My question is this: I am 15 years old and currently organising a "Nerd Night" for my school as a fundraiser, and so have been looking for games to play. I do have some games but some do not work because the school's systems aren't up to scratch, and the games that do work i cannot play multiplayer LAN with because when i make a copy of the disc the computer says the disc is not valid. Is there a way that i can burn the disc so that the computer thinks it is the exact original disc?
I was browsing download.com looking for some games that might be suitable and have came across game mods for games such as grand theft auto and Battlefield 1942. With these mods, can i just download them and play multiplayer, or do i need the original game installed? If i do need the original game installed, does anyone know how to make the disc an exact copy? I have made copies in RecordNow! and they are an exact copy, but the burnt disc will not work for Battlefield 1942 because it says it is invalid.
So do i need the original game installed to play such mods?
Also, one other question; could anybody recommend any FREE games that might be suitable to use for our LAN party "nerd night"? We are having kids ranged from 5-7 years old in one session, kids 8-12 in another session and then kids from 13-16 in another session.
Can anyone recommend any FREE games that would be suitable for these age groups.
The school's computers are 564mb ram, 40gb hard drive, on-board graphics, directx 9.0. Could anyone recommend any free games that will be playable on these systems and are suitable for different age groups.
For anyone reading this, thank you, i know it is a long question. And for anyone who is able to help, thank you, any help will be greatly appreciated.
If anyone has any extra suggestions that would aid me in running a successful LAN party nerd night, other than the games, movies, and music then please let me know as i dont not have much time (two weeks) to organise this in between school work and other things.
Please answer,
thank you,
EThan

Re: Game Mods, pc requirements, recommended games

You should not get any assistance here to pirate games (copy so the disks will work). LAN gaming typically does require that the participants have their own copies of the games to be played, unless you utilize an online gaming facility like www.gamearena.com.au. Here though each needs his (her) own account and must be over 18. I would suggest that in this case you hit a site such as http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/index.php and install a bunch of these old games.
Everyone can have fun, not necessarily playing against each other, just trying several games and having fun...
