PC Fails to Boot

I have an Athlon 64 X2 6400+ , 3 HDDs, 2GB RAM, Leadtek Winfast PX8800GT ZL with Win XP PRO OS.

Problem -
I am experiencing intermittent problems when booting my PC. It will boot as normal but after after a few sessions it will not reboot but will give a long beep followed by 2 short beeps. If I turn the PC off and return to it the following day it will once more boot as normal.

In case its important I do note that at start-up the hum of the cooling fans will stop for a second or two before operating as normal.

Grateful for any information.

Vernon

Could be a video card problem

Your graphics card might be faulty, or your motherboard's video card slot might have a problem. If you can, try installing another video card and see if it gives you the same problem.

I'd also suggest checking

I'd also suggest checking your system temperature. If the motherboard (correctly or incorrectly) believes that it's overheating, it'll automatically shut down.
