Monitor problems

I just purchased a CMV 17" LCD monitor on ebay (second hand, supposed to be working).
When I turn on my computer I get a quick flash on the screen and then nothing. I have tried pressing the various buttons on the bottom of the monitor, but all I am getting is a green light showing that power is on!!
It has "Menu, -/Contrast, +/Brightness, Input/Turbo, Auto/Exit, Power" buttons.
Can anyone suggest if there is a simple solution.

Is the computer booting up as

Is the computer booting up as per usual? Do you hear the hard drive spinning and does the keyboard light come on? You don't hear any more beeps than usual? If everything is fine, then it is a problem with the monitor.

Is it giving you a meesage on the screen such as 'signal not detected'? If so, try a different cable if you can. Also, if the monitor has two inputs (D-Sub and DVI), try plugging it in to the other input.

cmv monitor probs

Now experiencing same issue, but had mine since new. The only way I can get the monitor to fire up once it's been turned off, or in sleep mode it to pull the power cable out, wait for a while and then replug. Eventually, this sorts things out.

There's a suggestion the problem could be a conflict with the video card....or it's time to junk the monitor and get something more modern. (Suspect the latter)
