need some advice please!!

i am a camcorder novice and will only need to use it for like home videos, etc. i was considering buying the panasonic sdr-s7 but then i saw the panasonic sdr-s26. now i am a student so my budget is somewhat limited. is the sdr-s26 such a vast improvement that you think i should save up towards it or will the sdr-s7 suit me fine?

thanks for your advice.

ps- i am not looking to do any fancy editing and i understand the problems that will occur in low light/at night. thanks.

Hi there. It depends on what

Hi there. It depends on what you would prefer in your camcorder - a powerful zoom, or a small camcorder size?

The SR7 is smaller than the S26 - in fact, it's one of the smallest camcorders on the market. This makes it easy to take everywhere you go, as you can just stick it inside your jacket pocket and forget about it.

However, the S26 has a 70x optical zoom. This makes a HUGE difference to taking video. Say you're at the zoo for instance - the 70x zoom means you can zoom right in to an ape's face (or whatever) and get some amazing closeups. The S7 only has a 10x optical zoom.

When it comes to image quality, the S26 is definitely better, but the difference isn't huge. So if you don't care about zoom, save your money and get the S7.

thanks and one more question lol

thanks so much for your response. i decided to go ahead and get the s7. i'm not huge on the zoom really. do you know anything about the batteries?
i want to pick up two replacement batteries and i noticed that some people are saying that the batteries panasonic makes for their lumix digital cameras are compatible. is this true?
i ask because the lumix batteries are cheaper and so i would love to get them if they would work.
thanks

Not sure about the Lumix

Not sure about the Lumix batteries - I have passed your query on to our contacts at Panasonic. I'll post their reply here when they get back to me.
