My sony Tv won't tune all HD channels
Hi,
I have a Sony V series Full HD tv (40") with an integrated digital tuner. I have just moved from New Zealand where this TV tuner worked perfectly to receive all NZ Freeview channels in all its glory.
Since moving here and hooking it up, I've searched for all the digital channels automatically and it says that its found 26 channels.
The channels it finds are ABC, SBS and Channel 9 and some of those parlimentary, teaching channels. It should be noted that it finds multiple versions of these channel, standard definition and HD.
I don't have Channel 7, 10 and 1 HD. I've tried searching a number of times and always get the same channels. The quality of the HD channnels I do get is excellent.
Does anybody know what the issue could be? Is it just the aerial at my flat (which I'm assuming is probably shared in the block) isn't tuned correctly for all channels?
I don't think its anything to do with my TV since I'm receiving so many channels anyway. The easiest test would be to take it to a friends house and plug in his aerial but that not easy and I don't want to have to transport the TV.
There is a Foxtel aerial jack in the flat too, the previous owners has Foxtel, would this be any use?
Any ideas comments from the community?
Cheers
Lawrence

I do not know what channels you had in NZ or if their standards (Frequency allocation) are different to ours. I Would check this out first.
I would also ask around your block of flats to see if anyone else is having the same problem.
My initial reaction was that it is the Antenna as older aerials were not designed to receive channels (From memory) from 10 to 15 which is where the new Channel 10, 2, and 7 are but as you are receiving Channels 2 and 7 ok I would tend to rule out the Antenna but to be on the safe side I would check with the Body Corporate as to how old the Antenna is. If the antenna has not been updated in say the last five years then I would ask if it could be checked out. If there is any any resistance from them I would remind them that the antenna will be redundant in 2013 when the analogue signal is switched off and that they can expect that the other residents will be progressively changing over in the meantime, so they will have to make the change sooner or later and it would be better to do it sooner than later.
I can not see the foxtel outlet helping you much as it is cable so unless you are prepared to pay for a cable subscription it will not do anything for you.
If you follow this course of action I believe you will discover the cause of the problem no matter what it may be.
Best regards
Peter.
Have you tried using an
Have you tried using an external antenna (glorified rabbit-ears) to see if you are physically able to get the missing channels (even if you miss out on others)? Re-scan a few times with a rabbit-ear antenna pointing different directions to see if you can pick up the channels.
At least then you'll be able to work out if you're geographically suited to receive the channels. Can your neighbours receive them?

Go into your menu and see if the KHZ is on 7 KHZs or 8KHZs change them and you will probably have all channels.
