Compaq Presario SR200 2x Freeze up problems

Have a Compaq Presario SR200 2x
1. Problem started with computer seemed to freeze during use, periodically and then start working again.
2. As problem increased computer would not unfreeze and a manual restart was needed on the tower. Ctrl, Alt, Delete does nothing.
3. Restart and computer will not send signal to monitor, simply hear the fan run and nothing else.
4. Attempts allowed me to fire up everynow and then and performed a F10 and checked system drives all came in good. Computer prompted me into a pc recovery which reloaded all factory settings. Reboot and computer froze up again and again. Now the cpu will not send signal to monitor again. No success so far.
5. Any suggestions??

Thanks

Might be a video card problem

Are you getting any blue screens through all of this? If so, please post the error message.

From the sounds of it though, it could be a video card problem. It's overheating and freezing. Could also be the reason why you get no video signal when you reboot. Try running the computer with the cover off and see if that helps. While it's off, check if the video card's fan is spinning.

That's if your PC has a separate graphics card though. If it uses onboard graphics, then try installing an inexpensive PCI Express graphics card.

Hope this helps.
