Hi Glen, it all depends on

Hi Glen, it all depends on the video codec you are using and what you are planning to cut together. Is it HD video or standard definition? Flash memory or Mini DV?

If you're just planning to make home movies for private viewing, then Windows Movie Maker will get the job done - it comes free with Microsoft Windows and should already be on your computer. If you're making something more ambitious (a movie for Tropfest, say) then Adobe Premiere remains the editing suite of choice.

You can read our review (and also check out other editing programs) here:

Video Editing

Thanks Chris for for advice.
I don't want to do anything fancy. I have heaps of standard videos and just want to make a DVD.

In that case, your CPU will

In that case, your CPU will probably be up to the task.

By the way, if you're converting VHS tapes or using an old Super 8 camcorder, you'll need a way to transfer the footage to your computer for editing. You can buy analog-to-digital video capturing devices from most retail electronic stores, such as Dick Smith.
