SMTP setting - 9/8 2009

G'day everyone I am using Thunderbird for my email. When I receive an email with multiple pix in it, I am unable to forward it on. A message comes up saying "SMTP server failed. Check that the SMTP setting is correct." I am unable to find how to "set the SMTP setting". Has anyone any clues as to how to set the SMTP setting? Thanks to all JimT
