Outlook Express won't send (25 posts)

I have just networked my new laptop with my desktop computer using a wireless router. Both computers are running winows XP. The internet works fine on both computers but my problem is Outlook Express will receive mail on my laptop but will not send mail. My desktop computer sends and receives OK. Can you help? Stan

Re: Outlook Express won't send

Compare the outgoing (SMTP) settings in the laptop to the desktop. If OK, try it (briefly) with firewalls deactivated to ensure that this isn't the issue. If you are running Zone Alarm free edition, it won't handle networked internet sharing correctly.

I dont like outlook express, so I never use it but, Before you try anything else, turn off your Antivirus temporarily and then see if you can Send email in outlook express.

If that dont work see here -

Re: Outlook Express won't send

Hi Stan

A few suggestions: (a) If your mail service has webmail, please try to see if you able to send mail from the webmail via Internet browser instead of the email client i.e. outlook. (b) double check the Outlook email settings for outgoing, some ISP/Email provider may require "allow authentication" option to be checked. (c) If you have firewall(s), check the firewall rule/settings. May try to disable firewall and try again as sometime firewall could block the outgoing data of specific program. To do a simple test if your firewall is causing the problem, telnet to your outgoing mail server port in MS-DOS. 1. go to "start" > "run..." > type in "cmd" and hit "Ok" 2. in DOS command windows, type in telnet and hit enter. 3. if the result returned with "Connecting To mail.gmail.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25 : Connect failed" -- that may means possible blockage by firewall.

Good luck.
