Re: Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun in Win2000
I assume that you may be having problems running C&C Tiberian Sun under W2K.
Windows 2000 comes with a utility that can trick many applications into believe that they are running on an operating system other than Windows 2000. Although not perfect, this utility can help you to install/run many applications under W2K.
To use W2K Application Compatibility utility: 1. Insert your W2K CD and then open the Support folder. 2. Double-click on APCOMPAT>EXE file and this will load the utility. 3. In the Start the following program tab enter the location of the setup/executable file that you want to run 4. Select the Operating System you need to run it on. 5. Click on OK to attempt to run the program.
Try ticking the other boxes at the bottom if this fails.
With Service Pack 2 installed, MS has included another application compatibility mode. To enable this, click on Start then Run. Type the command regsvr32%systemroot%appatchslayerui.dll and hit Enter. Click OK after the prompt.
To use this feature, you must have a shortcut to launch the particular application. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties. Select Compatibility tab. Tick the Run in compatibility mode setting and then select the operating system. Click OK after all this.
To disable this feature, then simply Untick Run in compatibility mode and hit OK or to uninstall the utility then click on Start and Run and type the command regsvr32 /u%systemroot%apppatchslayerui.dll and hit enter.
These approaches have worked for me on certain older applications - though I haven't played C&C.
Check 3DFiles for game patches available, the game manufacturer for C&C, the various games FAQs & Reviews- amongst others - amd of course Microsoft web sites for more information about the utilities above which may help in the compatibility issue of W2K and various applications.

Yes, I like the game too. I have had a problem with it, and a few other of Westwood's creations (Red Alert II). They run, but don't display any graphics when you run the game, ie, they play sound, but leave a blank screen. I solved this problem once, after trying it for days and days, it finally ran. I don't know how or what, but it just went. This is about all I know for this - it's all I tried, too.
