Problems with Toshiba's Portege R700 (46 posts)

I purchased an R700 i5 with SSD on 16th July. The computer screen froze after two days (and kept doing so)until I was able to return it for an exchange. Simultaneously, the cooling fan would come into play and work overtime. The exchange R700 did exactly the same thing. Once after only 2 minutes of use ie the cooling fan went into "overdrive" and the screen froze. Each time I had no option but to force the computer to shut down. The store technician said he could not find a fault! I am thinking of changing over to either the HP Elitebook 8440p or the Sony VAIO F Series. Any ideas?

I am Also having the same issues where it freezes after a couple of hours or minutes of using this laptop. I have the i7 R700 with SSD. My battery is also faulty and not recharging.

Problem with Toshiba's Portege R700

So good to hear that I am not the only one. This computer is getting rave reviews - I find it hard to believe that not one reviewer has not had this problem. My battery also lasted for only 1 hour. I do believe we were told the battery life was 10 hours. I would have been happy with six! At least I can recharge my battery. I think Toshiba may have a problem with their new "flagship" model.

Hi There.... I am having the same issue with our new R700 i5 which we bought for our CEO...who patiently waitied 3 months for the R700 to be released.... And now after trying two different machines I am suspecting that its the laptop design itself....

We initially had Win7 Pro x64 loaded and it started freezing up occationally ... then the situation grew even worse...and started freezing up every 30 mins and the fan came on with a roar.....we reformatted the machine and reinstalled the SOE ...still the same..... we then got a new one ordered on DOA.....which which we loaded a fresh copy of OS W7 x64.....still the same...freezes on using iTunes 9.1 .... then Outlook 2010.... we then reformatted the system and loaded W7 Pro x32 and the same thing is happening.....

I cant be bothered troubleshooting anymore.... returing to Toshiba Australia for a refund....and switching to HP 2400 series.... had enough ambrassement infront of our CEO... ...checkout Toshiba Forum..... http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/Port%C3%A9g%C3%A9-Laptops/R700-Freezing-up/td-p/120885

what is the "Part Number" and "Model Name"of your devices ?

Have you tried to update the BIOS or contact TOSHIBA Support Centre to find out what's really going on?

Toshiba is known for their reputation of reliable and solid laptops.Maybe a faulty in the concept

Hope you will find the right solutions

Toshiba R700 won't burn full CD's / R705 burning issue.

For some reason my Toshiba R705 (Window's 7) will not burn full cd's via Windows Media Player. It will rip them just fine, but will not burn. These are cd's that my previous Dell XPS system could burn via Windows Media Player without (copyright protected) issue. It will let me bring over five or six tracks at three minutes a pop and burn a full cd that way, but I cannot burn bring over a full album (in one drop or song by song) and burn the full album to CD. I've tried changing the burn speed from fast, to medium to slow, none of these correct the issue. It rips fine. Plays what I've ripped just fine. it just won't burn a full album.

No other known issues with this system that I've encountered yet.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

what is the "Part Number" and "Model Name"of your devices ?

My partner purchased a Toshiba U505 touchscreen and it has been an absolute nightmare. The computer was having on-going problems, we returned one, it took over one month to get it back, was then sent back with the wrong operating system, then got them to agree to give him a refurbished one which was also had problems. We eventually gave up. Customer service was terrible, they told us we should have 2 computers at all time in case their was a problem with the first one.. We will never purchase a Toshiba again, nothing but problems.

Toshiba laptops are dreadfully pricey compared to other brands that have same or better components. I wonder what exactly are consumers paying for? the brand name sticker?
