Does anyone know how to get the linux version of quake 3 arena to work on windows?
I have installed the q3a demo in windows and copied the pak files off the cd into the q3a
directory but I get a corrupted pakfile message when trying to run the game.
There is a link on Everythinglinux for instructions on doing the conversion, but,
unfortunately the web page has disappeared (Loki games).I cannot find anything at
Idsoftware.
regards,
Alistair.

Re: quake3
This does appear to be possible (i've not done it myself). Google have an excellent cache of websites that is very handy for retrieving removed pages. Here is the cached copy of the page you are looking for.
From the page:
Can I use the Linux CD to run Quake III under Windows and/or the Mac OS?
Yes. To do this, simply install the Windows/Mac point release and copy the pak0.pk3 file from the CD's baseq3 directory into the baseq3 directory of your Quake III installation.
I hope this solves your problem.

Re: quake3
Thanks Al ,worked a treat.
Having Q3 installed on my windows partition now allows me to install some mods that are only available as win.exe files. After install I just copy them to my Linux Q3 install directory and I have the mods available in Linux. As a matter of interest Q3 seems to run quite a bit faster on linux (LM 8.1) than it does in win98se.This is on a dual boot pc so hardware differences are not an issue.
