XP and Sony DSC-P20 (9 posts)

Win XP will not recognize my Sony DSC-P20 digital camera. Any suggestions?

Re: XP and Sony DSC-P20

Depends. What happens when you plug it in? Did it come with a disc, and if so did you install the software before you connected the camera? Have a look through the menus. Often there is an item where you can choose to have the camera appear as a camera (by name requiring the proprietory software) or as a standard USB device. In the latter case, it won't require additional software, it will just appear as a removable drive.

Alan,

Unless you have a specific reason to keep the camera you should buy a new one. 1.3 megapixel cameras are long superceded by much better ones and are quite cheap now days.

Cheers

When you plug the supplied lead into a USB port the camera should show up in your file manager as another drive. Try this forum for help http://www.dcviews.com/_sony/p20.htm

Re: XP and Sony DSC-P20

Alan,

I realise that you said that you'd fixed the problem. However, I had a somewhat similar problem with USB connections.

What I did was delete all my USB connections under 'System' and let XP re-find and re-establish the various USB connections on reboot.

To those who responded thank you. Special thanks to dick tracy who passed on a piece of info regarding USB ports - of no use in this case BUT has been tucked away as useful info.
