XP PRO SP2 networking (3 posts)

Hi Just wondering how to set up a 2 computer network with ICS. I have connected the 2 computers together with a crossover cable and run the xp network setup wizard but still cannot ping or see the other computer in the network connections window. NEED HELP ASAP.

Thanks Rikki

Re: XP PRO SP2 networking

File sharing is disabled by default. Right click Shared Docs, click sharing, tick share this folder, and allow network users to change files. Do this on both pc's.

If you still can't see the other pc, check the ip addresses. The one with the internet connection must have 192.168.0.1 as its address, the other should be set to auto, with 192.168.0.1 as its gateway.

If still no go, disable Windows firewall temporarily on both machines. If this fixes it, make sure that local area network is ticked in exceptions.

If it still isn't working, check your crossover cable. A standard network cable will not work.

Thanks Craig -- that worked, it was simple IP addresses and the default gateway thing but all working now.
