iPad not charging from laptop (13 posts)

My new Ipad charges just fine when I plug it into the wall, but when I try charging it through my laptop, it doesn't work. My laptop charges up other devices just fine, so is ther a compatability issue or drivers that can fix this?

try sleep mode

Hey Snowbird,

The problem might be that your laptop's USB port doesn't put out enough juice. This happens with some laptop models. What you can try is to put your Ipad into Sleep mode before charging, and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work, you will be stuck using your wall charger until you get a newer laptop.

Hope this helps.

Because the iPad sucks up so much juice, a laptop through regular usb ports have trouble charging it. Read more here: http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2010/04/ipad-review.ars/14

thx

the ipad is showing not charging but the battery percent is supposedly increasing.wt do i do

Hi I had the same problem both at my HP Desktop (purchased in 2006) and my HP laptop (purchased in 2011). The iPad would not charge.

I installed this software (free) http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/ai_charger/

It asked my computer to reboot the computer and once it did, it charges beautifully (from the desktop it even charges from the USB hub).

Avast wanted to install it at the sandbox, but I scanned the file and decided to go ahead.

Duh, just use he wall. It comes with a port stupid.

Awesome find on the Asus application. I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 and it now charges my Ipad2. Thank you much.
